High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is a silent killer. If your systolic blood pressure is higher than 139 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure is higher than 89 mmHg, then you have high blood pressure. To confirm your diagnosis your doctor has to measure your blood pressure at three different occasions. If your blood pressure comes out higher than normal as described above, you are definitely suffering from high blood pressure. The doctor can prescribe a water pill to reduce your pressure. The bad part of taking the pill is if you are on it, you will be on it for life. The best way to reduce high blood pressure is to have a lifestyle change. There are many things one can do to change their sedentary lifestyle. Exercising regularly for at least half an hour to an extent that you break your sweat should be part of your daily regimen. Eating healthy foods rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, and preventing heavy foods rich in bad cholesterol is important. There is a famous saying “You are what you eat”. If you eat healthy food, it will show signs of improvement in your blood pressure. Sleeping well and performing relaxing body exercises like yoga or meditation is also very important in reducing the anxiety related to your high blood pressure.
